History of City Fellowship Church

lowermanhattan
Pastor Steve, his wife, and their two children moved to New York City in August, 2006. With his background as an attorney, Steve sensed God’s leading to start a church for urban professionals somewhere in the city. But he didn’t know where. His education in the fellows program of the Redeemer Church Planting Center, practical training as a pastoral intern at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Morningside Heights, and much networking and prayer turned Steve’s attention downtown. At the same time, Pastor Ben, then living in New Jersey with his wife and pastoring at Bridgeway Community Church, also sensed God’s leading toward starting a church in New York City. Steve and Ben eventually realized they shared a common vision for lower Manhattan and began praying together for this vision take shape. It did immediately in the form of a name: City Fellowship Church. By August, 2007, Steve and Ben had relocated with their families to lower Manhattan. In October, 2007, they were holding weekly fellowship and small group gatherings. In answer to their prayers, God continued to shape City Fellowship Church with ten to fifteen people attending these meetings regularly. Now we are praying that we will be ready to hold public worship services by spring, 2008, at the earliest, or fall, 2008, at the latest. We have been blessed to see God at work in this process from start, and we look forward to seeing how God further develops this burgeoning community at City Fellowship Church.
